I am completely pumped for this game.It comes out in about a week and a half and all the pre-release material has been tantalizing. They are also releasing a 2d flash game to toy around with on Tuesday, on which you can earn bonus items for when the game comes out. The one gripe I have already is the existence of DLC on launch. I mean, if it is already there on launch, why not just put it in the game and let us get more bang for the buck ?

That aside though, they recently released a character creator you can twiddle around in. I've already made a human female noble and a male "wood" elf: I'm planning to be an rogue->archer, and which ever one works out better as an archer is the one I'll end up going with. The other one will get scrapped so I can make a mage-> shapeshifter/bloodmage.

Dragon Age is a game I'm really looking forward to as well. Bioware are in my opinion the best developers out there (along with Blizzard) and I have high expectaions for this game, 10 years in the making.

From what I've seen it's either going to be incredible or in incredibly terrible. I'll wait on the reviews before I decide.

After looking into it a bit I decided I'll be giving this a try. It's been too long since I played a good RPG and this one seems fairly promising. I stopped off at the local Gamestop on the way to work today and preordered it. Apparently for my trouble I'll be getting a set of Blood Dragon Armor that I can use in Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 with the purchase.

As to the DLC being included separately, it's probably an attempt to get people to buy the game new instead of waiting a few months and getting it used. If you buy the game new before the end of April, it's free. If you buy it used or wait until after the end of April, it'll cost fifteen dollars for it.

I'm hoping for some feedback on this game because it looks really interesting to play. The only thing that pisses me off is that it really should have had multi-player ability added to it. If you could co-op me and my friend both would have bought this game instantly.

I like the character creator, even if it is pretty basic. I'm still waiting on the day an RPG has a character creator as elaborate as one of Yuke's WWE games.

I played through the first five or so hours of this. It has some real potential, but I'm really hoping that the action picks up a bit now that I'm into the main story. I spent maybe an hour fighting stuff and the rest of the time walking around talking to people. The graphics are very well done, the sound is very good, and they actually hired actors for the voices. That last bit is especially nice since you spend so much time having conversations.

There is a metric sh*t ton of character customization, both in creating your character and in customizing it's abilities. The Origins bit is interesting but kind of annoying too. Basically, there are six different back stories to pick from and the one you pick will shape how people react to you. The annoying bit is that the back stories are limited by race and class, so you really only have one or two for each combination. Also, the first hour or so of the game is completely different for each of the six, so you have to have six different characters if want to see them all.

Combat actually reminds me a little of FFXI but with a faster pace, and a lot more complexity. You can choose your target and auto attack or choose to use an ability or spell. Spells cost Mana to cast and Abilities cost Stamina to use. There is a base cost and several variables, such as the armor you're wearing and the other spells and abilities you have going, that effect the final cost. Mobs are fairly weak, but there tend to several attacking you at once so it balances out.

You can either choose to attack on the fly and let your party take care of itself, or you can pause the game and micro manage everyone's actions. Health and Stamina/Mana recharge over time, slower in combat and faster when walking around. You can also use various healing potions and such as well as cast healing magic if you have a mage in your party. At higher levels combat looks like it can get extremely complex, but in the early levels you don't have much to play around with.

There is also a tactics system, that basically let's you program the rest of your party to deal with the more mundane things, like you keeping you healed and such. It has a fair amount of depth to it, but I haven't gotten far enough into the game to really play around with it yet.

The Blood Dragon Armor I got for preording it at the evil Gamestop is useless at the start of the game. You need to have 38 STR to equip it, which means you can't were it until you reach level 8, and that's if you go as a Warrior and put all of your stat upgrades into STR. Realistically, it won't be until level 15 or so.

I did get a couple of codes for some accessories though. One gave me a ring with +1% to EXP and 1 extra skill point, the other is an amulet that adds to armor, nature resist, and increases the rate of health regen when walking around. Nothing game breaking, but it's a nice little bonus.

If you buy the game new before the end of April, you also get a code for a free DLC that will let you explore some new areas and get some new quests and recruit and wicked looking golem. I haven't even touched that yet, but it's good reason to think about buying the game now instead of waiting. If you wait or get it used, you can still get the DLC but it'll cost 15 dollars. I was bit annoyed to see that there is actually a second DLC already available as well.

Honestly, I dont think ive played an RPG that was this challenging in a long ass time.

Though sometimes its a little to hard, such as the ogre, that well has a very nasty attack, and who i was forced to kite around in order to stand a chance of beating.

So I just got the game and already I'm encountering the nightmare that is Bioware games.

I've made a mage, and now I have to select spells, but the descriptions are utterly horrible and barely tell you anything about how they function. I could get drain life or lightning. Both have the same cost, same range, and same cool down. The only difference is that drain life heals me. But am I giving up damage for that? How good is the healing? Are there resistances I need to be aware of? The game is asking me to make a flavor decision "Do you want to shoot lightning or be a vampire?" when I should be making a functional decision "Do I want to burst enemies down or outlast them?"

It also seems that there is no way to change your spells once you pick them. So if you make a mistake or find out a spell doesn't do what you thought it should have, you have to restart the game.

"We've created a brilliant set of forest trails to walk along that are each unique and special in their own way, try an one you like!"
"Well, what are the trails like? I'd like to go on one that passes by a river?"
"We're not going to tell you, also you can only try one of the trails. Have fun exploringchoosing a path at random!"

I broke down and forum'd the issue because I knew something like this would screw me over later. This might be considered game play spoilers so be warned reading ahead, but I didn't think it enough to merit the spoiler tag.

There IS a level cap in the game, at least a soft one. After around level 22 the exp to reach next level becomes pretty much insurmountable, there probably aren't enough mobs in the game to reach level 23. Players who have been using the dev console to gain exp got stuck around 25 without being able to progress further. You are not intended to go much passed 20 in this game, not that the game would tell you that...

I'm looking forward to replaying this as different races and jobs. And on different difficulty.

I think that is my only gripe, that Easy is really Easy (in fact on the PC version they just patched us so it's even easier) and Normal is OMGWTFBBQKITTENS hard (for me at least). So I play on normal and switch to easy when I can't get past something for now.

Love the game though, can't wait for the dev kit to be re-released.

Maybe it's because I'm a mage, and because I'm starting out, but Nightmare is fairly easy for me. The only issue I have is that everything aggroes instantly, so I don't have any time to set anything up, I just have to nuke things down right away.

pc has higher resolution and smoother graphics. pc version has a tactical option where you can pause the battles and move people around and stuff if you want which was all but eliminated in the console versions. because of that, the console versions are supposably considerably easier, but the battles flow better.

vgw had a dude play all three versions for review.

While I haven't played the console version, I can't forsee there being any gain.

The game is basically an MMORPG. You have a hot bar with more slots than one could reasonably assign to a controller. There are several keyboard shortcuts which come in handy, such as / to cahnge weapons sets (if you're a ranger who needs to go melee), or \ to quickly open up the ai menu.

It says a lot about a game when I deliberately kill off my party members so they won't mess up my plans. I could massively micro... but it's just easier to solo/duo things.

The game is basically an MMORPG. You have a hot bar with more slots than one could reasonably assign to a controller. There are several keyboard shortcuts which come in handy, such as / to cahnge weapons sets (if you're a ranger who needs to go melee), or \ to quickly open up the ai menu.

Thank you. I no longer have the slightest interest in this game.

Actually my character is fairly nice, on the outside.

I decided I'm not going to bother worrying about the alignment system. With how much of a pain and kill fun it was in mass effect I've decided to just say whatever seems the funniest or most interesting at the time and then hack the game to give me whatever piece of equipment or bonus I would get for following a dialogue guide to answer in the arbitrary manner the designers decided I should.

I get no gain from you not playing Smiley: laugh However I understand being choosy with your cash, it's in short supply for most (myself included) lately. Smiley: thumbsup

I need a new game to play. Despite the fact I still pay for my FFXI toon, i get bored anytime I log in considering my social & HNM shells have all died since my last sabbatical. Warhammer 40K DoW II, while solving the need of my RTS fix pre Starcraft II, bores me now. Maddens fine, but I lack the patience for more than one game in a row. And for the life of me, I just can't finish the last half of disc 4 of Lost Odyssey.

How many game hours will this one entertain me?

They claim on the box to have over 80 hours of game play, which from what I've seen so far seems to be fairly accurate.
